Guide: Using an ATI 600 USB

Last Updated on November 11, 2023 by dijitaru

This guide aims to provide some instructions on using the well-known ATI 600 USB capture card.

If you want to buy a used ATI 600 but it doesn’t have the original CD, worry not, you can still use it perfectly fine.

Step 1 Download and install the drivers from the website

The drivers are provided on DigitalFAQ https://www.digitalfaq.com/forum/video-capture/3136-ati-600-usb.html

Guaranteed Compatability: Windows XP and Windows 7. Windows 10 (maybe*), Almost surely will not work on Windows 11.

*The drivers will install perfectly fine on Windows XP and Windows 7. They will also install on Windows 10, but the device may or may not work properly, depending on your Windows 10 version.

The drivers will not install (easily) on Windows 11, unless you do some workarounds to extract the drivers only from the installer. After the Workaround, I was able to get the drivers to work and to get a preview/capture but it was freezing and was unusable.

Step 2: Setting the input source, standard, dimensions and doing the capture

Once your device is recognized, you need to select the input source (Composite or S-video ) and the standard (NTSC, SECAM, PAL, etc). P.S. Always use s-video when possible.

You also need to make sure you are recording with the right framerate and with the right dimensions.

Here is a quick video showing this usage

Some other options you may want to set:

  • You may also want to tweak the proc amp settings (under Video> levels) and reduce the sharp to 0
  • Make sure the framerate is set properly under Capture>settings
  • You may want to Uncheck “use audio time stamps” and Check “disable time stamps” both are under Capture>capture timing settings
